How does stress impact children, teenagers, and their mothers?

And why are some people happier than others?

Everyone experiences stress.  Some people experience a lot of stress and some people experience relatively little stress.  For some people, each additional thing is really hard to deal with and other people aren't really affected by it.

The goal of this study is to better understand how stress impacts families, including their moods, and how this may change as kids age into teenagers.  We're hoping to include a really diverse group of families, including families that experience a lot of stress and families that seem to be pretty low stress.

For the study, we're asking moms and their 7-15 year olds to complete study visits at Binghamton University  5 times over the course of 2 years (every 6 months).  Each visit will take about 3 hours.  This study has been approved by Binghamton University's Institutional Review Board.

You and your child/teenager will each receive $50 for each study visit ($250 each for completing the full study).
